Vision Board Template: A Free Starting Point

A good vision board template gives you a layout and a set of prompts so you are not staring at a blank page. The fastest way to start is to split a board into life areas, drop one image and one short goal into each, and put the finished board somewhere you will see it daily. You can do this on paper, in a slideshow, or in an app.

The free digital vision board maker on this site gives you a layout and a search box, so you can build one right in your browser. If you would rather print one, the structure below works just as well on paper.

The template

Use six to eight slots, one per life area. For each slot, you fill three things: an image, a caption, and a short goal.

Slot Image idea Goal prompt
Career The work you want to grow One result at work this year
Money A number you are saving toward The amount, and by when
Health How you want to feel One habit you are keeping
Love The people you want closer One person to show up for
Travel A place you will go The trip, and the month
Home The space you want One project to finish
Growth Your word for the year A promise to yourself

Print it, or recreate it as a grid. Leave a little space between slots so the board is easy to read.

How to use the template

  1. Fill the images first. Use your own photos where you can. Search for the rest.
  2. Add a caption. A few words that name what the image means to you.
  3. Write the goal. Specific and present tense. “Save 5,000 by December” beats “save more.”
  4. Put it where you live. A wallpaper, a widget, a wall. The board only works if you see it.

Printable or digital?

A printable template is great for a workshop or a wall. A digital template is better if you want the board to follow you and update easily. The biggest advantage of digital is the home and lock screen: a board you see every time you check your phone is a board you actually use.

Starter themes

If you want a head start, these themes come ready to fill:

  • New Year: one dream from each life area
  • A year for me: a calm, even start across the board
  • Build and earn: career and money heavy
  • Soft life: rest, home, and relationships

In Wishframe, each of these is a built-in template. Pick one, swap in your photos, write a goal and an affirmation on each, and the board lands on your home screen. For the full walkthrough, see how to make a vision board.
